We understand that development work can lead to more questions than answers. We hope this section helps answer some of your questions. What can I expect from working with Oasis?

Expect us to listen at a deep level to get under your skin and find out where you are starting from. To work effectively, we need to grasp your unique phase, questions and context.

We then work together in partnership over time, co-creating our learning. Our way of working is not off-the-shelf or quick-fix – it is entirely tailored to your needs and your situation, and will be worked out through our relationship.

How can I find out if your way of working is for me?

Talk to us! Get in touch with us for a conversation and see if we have areas of connection. We can also put you in touch with former participants or clients who can tell you what it’s like to work with us.

To really understand how we work, the best thing to do is to immerse yourself in our approach. We recommend you come on an introductory programme, such as Skills for Change, or come to one of our events, to experience how we work for yourself.

Do you only work with organisations, or can I work with you as an individual?

A lot of our work is with organisations, but we are always willing to work with people on an individual basis, depending on their development needs. The best place to start is by taking a look at our Programmes page to see if there is one that suits you. Our open programmes are open to individuals.

Are you a charity?

The Oasis School of Human Relations is a not-for-profit organisation.

We also have a charitable arm – the Oasis Foundation – which we support.

Can I order hard copies of your resources?

Yes of course! You can download pdfs of most of our manuals from the Resources page. If you would prefer hard copies, or want a copy of a particular book, simply get in touch with the office.

Getting here

Using the centre

The Oasis centre is where most of our programmes are held, and is also used for meetings and one-to-one sessions.

When you visit for the first time you will be greeted by one of the centre staff, who will show you round and answer any questions.

On subsequent visits we ask that you make yourself at home and help yourself to our wide selection of FairTrade teas, coffee, fruit and biscuits.

What programmes do you run?

Our Whole Person Learning Programmes are designed to develop individuals, leaders and practitioners.

We run open programmes that anyone can apply for, as well as in-house programmes within organisations. All open programmes can also be commissioned to run in organisations.

We also run communities of practice to support learning among practitioners.

What can I expect from an Oasis programme?

Our programmes vary in subject matter and content, but what they share is a rich mix of inputs, practice-based frameworks, applied and experiential learning, facilitated group discussion and reflection.

You’ll be working in small groups, practising your skills with real-life examples, and creating a supportive peer-learning group.

Our expert facilitators will stretch and support you throughout the programme, offering bespoke interventions based on the needs of the group.

The pace might be slower than you are used to – this allows us to work at real depth, enabling real change and reflection, helping you to get the most from the programme.

How do I apply?

To apply for programmes or to take part in a community of practice, your first step is to get in touch with the Oasis office on 01937 541700 or by email.

We can then arrange a conversation with the facilitator to help you work out what’s involved and if the programme is the right fit for you and send you an application form.

What happens after I apply?

We will be in touch to discuss your application. On longer term programmes there is usually a mutual interview to help you decide if the programme is the right step for you.

If you are successful we will offer you a place and send you an information pack.

Do I receive certification or accreditation?

Our Coaching and Mentoring with Head, Heart and Soul programme is accredited by the Association for Coaching.

All our programmes are assessed using Self and Peer Assessment processes. When you complete a programme you will receive a certificate outlining your achievements and progress.

What does the programme fee cover?

The fee covers all aspects of participation except for your travel and accommodation. Some longer term programmes have a residential element – the cost of this is separated out for transparency.

What support is available for programme fees?

Some of our programmes have bursaries attached or places sponsored by the Oasis Foundation.

In all cases we are open to dialogue in regard to fees for those that have a deep commitment to developing facilitation or leadership resources but are facing resource constraints.

Is accommodation available?

There is bed and breakfast accommodation in Boston Spa itself and hotels in nearby Wetherby.
